Sun Belt sends two teams bowling

Tuesday, December 9th, 2008

When the bowl games were announced, Troy knew they would be playing in the postseason. At 8-4 the Trojans had earned their spot in the New Orleans Bowl as the Sun Belt Champions. The next test for the Troy Trojans will be the Southern Miss Golden Eagles of Conference USA, a team that finished the season at 6-6 but won their final four games of the season. The real surprise of the bowl announcements was that the Sun Belt was able to send a second team to a bowl game in 2008 as the Florida Atlantic Owls will face Central Michigan in the Motor City Bowl. FAU (6-6) was in a pool with several other 6-6 teams including fellow Sun Belt members Louisiana-Lafayette & Arkansas State, but was chosen ahead of their conference rivals marking the second time in three years that the Sun Belt has faced CMU from the MAC in the Motor City Bowl. In 2006 Middle Tennessee dropped a 31-14 contest to the same Chippewas of Central Michigan.
