TCU, BYU prepare for the MWC’s biggest game of the year

Monday, October 19th, 2009

The TCU Horned Frogs come in at #8 in the initial BCS standings. Behind a great defense TCU has rolled to a 6-0 record as they thumped Colorado State last weekend and will now face their stiffest test of the season when they travel to BYU on October 24th. The Cougars come in at #16 heading into the biggest game of the year in the Mountain West. The Mountain West Conference can also boast another Top 25 team as 5-1 Utah falls in at #18. The preseason conference favorite Utes hosts Air Force on October 24th as both teams are slated to go bowling this winter in the latest 2009 bowl projections.

Building a Mid-Major

Eddie Griffin of College Sports Fans recently wrote an article on mid-major college football & basketball teams building their programs and gaining national prominence. We witnessed the Utah Utes behind QB Alex Smith and then head coach Urban Meyer win a BCS bowl game just a few short years ago, and while Utah has maintained a winning program, they have not been anywhere close to their BCS performance again.

Labeling continuity, confidence and being in the right place at the right time as keys to building and sustaining a college program into an elite team, this article makes a great read for fans of any non-BCS conference football program.
