Friday, December 18th, 2009

The Mountain West bowl season opens with Wyoming facing Fresno on December 19th in the New Mexico Bowl. This match-up should be very entertaining and high scoring. Utah will face the Cal Golden Bears in the Poinsettia Bowl as the Bears will likely be without star RB Jahvid Best. Air Force has a tremendous defense which will have a difficult test against the high flying Cougars of Houston on New Years Eve at the Texas Bowl. The BCS came calling as a battle of undefeated teams will ensue when TCU faces Boise State on January 4th in the Fiesta Bowl. The entire bowl schedule has been released featuring games from December 19 through January 7th.

The Horned Frogs left little doubt to the legitimacy as they rolled New Mexico 51-10. TCU remained at #4 in the BCS Top 25 rankings, but it is unlikely they will get a shot in the big game. TCU will need a Texas loss in the Big 12 Championship Game to have a shot, but given history voters may even look to bypass both TCU and Boise State to ensure the BCS Championship game features two BCS automatic qualifier teams. BYU moved up five slots to #14 with their thrilling victory over rival Utah. With the loss Utah dropped four slots to #25.
