The main event for WEC 39 is underway. Just as a refresher, the WEC 39 preview from Pro Fighting Fans picked a Unanimous Decision in Brown’s favor. We shall see shortly…

Round 1 – A huge overhand right from Brown knocked Garcia to the ground as Brown jumped on top and proceeded with some vicious ground and pound, opening up a cut on Garcia’s forehead. After numerous punches and elbows, Garcia seemed to get his head but Brown switched to submission attempts. The fight ended quickly as Brown won via Arm Choke.

Final Result: 1:57 in the 1st Round via Submission (Arm Choke), Mike Brown is the winner and successfully defends his WEC Featherweight Championship belt.

In the postfight interview, after a slip of the tongue, Brown welcomed a rematch with former WEC Featherweight Champ Urijah Faber, a fight that the MMA world would welcome with open arms.

The main event of the night features WEC Featherweight Champion Mike Brown (20-4) versus #1 contender Leonard “Bad Boy” Garcia (16-3). Brown is making his first title defense after stunning the MMA world in defeating the face of the WEC, Urijah Faber. Garcia comes off a destruction of tonight’s announcer, Jens Pulver, at WEC 36 in November 2008. Pulver’s pick was not really a pick at all as he “would love to see garcia do it” but he really did not say who he thought would win.

Garcia, a native of Lubbock, Texas, while still in his home state of Texas is fighting over 530 miles from home. Garcia entered the cage withi his TapouT shirt and shades as his dream of being the WEC Featherweight Champion of the world could be just minutes away.

Brown entered the arena wearing TapouT as well to much more somber music, looking a little nervous, but focused.

Brown is 33 years old standing 5’6″ tall and 145 pounds with a 70″ reach while Garcia is 29, 5’10″ and 145 pounds with a 69″ reach.

WEC 39, the latest event from the World Extreme Cagefighting, will take place on Sunday night, March 1st and fans can watch it live on Versus. There are plenty of reasons to watch this event, the most notable of which is that two fights involve major players in the WEC Featherweight Division. As we noted recently, the WEC Featherweight Division is loaded with talent and WEC 39 will feature the Featherweight title bout between current belt holder Mike Brown and top contender Leonard “Bad Boy” Garcia. Another of the Featherweight contenders, rising star Jose Aldo, will take on Chris Mickle.
