MAC Football Week 2 - Favorable match-ups for MAC

Week 2 of the 2012 college football season kicks off at 12:30 pm ET for the MAC when Ball State plays @ #12 Clemson. All 13 MAC schools are in action in Week 2 with several favorable match-ups which should, keyword should, produce a winning record for the Mid-American Conference by day’s end. Here’s a breakdown of the games based on expected results:

MAC should win: Ohio vs New Mexico State, Buffalo vs Morgan State, Northern Illinois vs Tennessee-Martin, Western Michigan vs Eastern Illinois, Miami vs SIU - The Bobcats must prove they are indeed a true MAC title contender and handle NMSU, the lone FBS opponent on the list above. The remaining games are mis-matches on paper, but that’s why they play the games.

MAC expected to lose: Central Michigan vs #11 Michigan State, Ball State @ #12 Clemson, Kent State @ Kentucky, Indiana @ Massachusetts - There is little reason to believe CMU or Ball State can pull off the upset, but both can have a good showing and make their games close. The Kent vs Kentucky game is an interesting match-up, but Kent State is not far enough along to b ready to upset a SEC school, even if it is Kentucky. UMass is a few years away from even contending in the MAC, let alone beating a Big Ten school.

Bubble Games: Bowling Green vs Idaho, Akron @ Florida International, Toledo @ Wyoming, Eastern Michigan vs Illinois State - BG needs to beat Idaho to feel good about this week - the Falcons should be a contender for the MAC Championship and wins over other FBS teams are rare for anyone but the upper echelon of the MAC so BG needs to get this one. The EMU game is the scary one; the MAC needs to beat their FCS foes if they ever want to get any respect nationally.
