I know my usual posts are on Conference USA baseball, but after watching UAB smoke #3 Memphis I was impelled to post an article in reference to the team and the game. First of all the team showed tremendous heart in this game. The team was well aware that they needed this win to get into the tournament, which in my opinion is a shame considering a 20-5 team could be left out (of course I’m a little bias being a C-USA fan), plus may I remind you that it was only last year that C-USA was one of the top Conferences in basketball before the defection of a few teams. Furthermore…UAB has had three straight 20 win seasons and made the sweet 16 two years ago, so how can you not vote this team in, along with Memphis, to represent C-USA in the NCAA Tournament.
Now the game was a seesaw battle with the two teams trading blows but in the end it was turnovers that made the difference. UAB pressured and out hustled the Tigers throughout the game resulting in a young Memphis team making mental errors in taking bad shots and passes.
With this said, I look forward to watching both these teams represent our conference well in March, plus UTEP and Houston in the NIT.

UTEP manhandled UAB and played without their 2nd leading scorer (Center John Tofi) against Memphis, who got injured in the early minutes of the game. I wouldnt be suprised if UTEP wins the Conf USA Tourney and gets the bid instead of UAB. Should be interesting.

Could happen but if UAB play’s respectable I believe they will make it…UTEP & Houston will need to win the tournament out right.

I’m not liking UTEP’s chances at all in the Tourney. I know some fans will not want to hear that, and I almost hope they prove me wrong, but I see UAB losing to Memphis in the finals.

That is a likely match-up & finish but those Blazers are extremely feisty.
