Buckeyes are near-unanimous #1

Week #17 of the college basketball season is here with the Big Ten’s Ohio State Buckeyes in the #1 spot in both the AP and ESPN polls. Wisconsin drops to #4/5 and no other Big ten basketball team cracked the Top 25. Michigan State, Indiana and Illinois also received votes, but none were ranked in the Top 25 of either poll.

The #1 Ohio State Buckeyes finally have a marquee win under their belt as they look to earn a #1 seed in the upcoming NCAA Tournament. The Buckeyes defeated the Wisconsin Badgers today by a score of 49-48 to lock up a Big Ten basketball championship and the #1 seed in the upcoming Big Ten Basketball Tournament.

Ohio State has taken the lead at 49-48, but the Wisconsin Badgers have possession after the made basket with 3.9 seconds remaining in the game. A ill-timed time out by Bo Ryan wipes off a potential game-winning 3-pointer at the buzzer.

With just 16.1 seconds remaining the Ohio State Buckeyes have called time out with a chance to win the game. Trailing 48-47 the Buckeys sent Wisconsin the the line on a 1 and 1. But a missed FT on the front-end gave the Buckeyes the ball and a chance to win the game.

Greg Oden’s dunk tied the game at 46-46 with under 3 minutes remaining, and his free throw gives the Buckeyes a 47-46 lead. Oden FT attaempt gives Ohio State 13 foul shots in the game to just 5 attempts for Wisconsin, a team that averages over 20 FT attempts per game…

Another traveling violation on Greg Oden has Ohio State head coach Thad Matta screaming on the sideline. Oden was called for his second traveling violation in the past few minutes at the 5 minute mark in the 2nd half. Wisconsin gets possession with a 44-42 lead and 5:08 remaining in the game.
