Michigan State football begins a new era or mediocrity with Dantonio at the helm

Well it appears as though Michigan State has found their latest football savior in former Cincinnati head coach Mike Dantonio.

Once upon a time Nick Saban was supposed to be the answer in East Landsing. Saban was to be the man to dislodge Big Ten football powerhouses Ohio State and Michigan from the top of the Big Ten standings. As soon as he came close he jumped ship for LSU. Then the Spartans turned to Bobby Williams and when that didn’t work out they brough John L. Smith in from Louisville.

Now the Spartans have their latest football savior; former UC Bearcats head man Mark Dantonio. In three years at Cincinnati Dantonio has compiled a spectacular 18-17 record with two 7-5 seasons as the highlights of his head coaching career. While UC does have an upcoming bowl game and a huge upset over then #7 Rutgers, it’s hard to get excited for Michigan State football after this hiring. Other candidates included Cleveland Browns D-coordinator Todd Grantham, Central Michigan head coach Brian Kelly and LSU D-coordinator Bo Pelini, all of which would have been better-suited for the job in my opinion. But Michigan State thinks they have their man whether I agree or not.
