Thoughts on the Texas A&M vs. Texas football game

Wednesday, November 26th, 2008

A few thoughts on the Texas A&M @ #4 Texas football game from Big 12 Fans’ Texas A&M Correspondent Jay Goode:

“Some thoughts on the Aggie/Texas football game.  The odds maker have the Longhorns up by 35.   Mack Brown needs style points to maintain his second place position in the BCS.   This could be interesting from that standpoint alone.  OU put up 66 against the Ags at Kyle Field.   If the Longhorns can’t put up 60 or more points on the Aggies by the 3Q, it could be cause the Horns to fall out of second.   It all depends on the OU/OSU game and the Baylor/Tech games, of course.

This could be interesting.

The stars are aligned to watch Mike Sherman get his butt kicked in Austin.

Another tidbit.  Aggie Athletic Director “Dollar” Bill Byrne is getting very introspective on his weekly blogs.  About three weeks ago he turned off the “feedback” feature!  HaHa!  Get this:  No one could send feedback anyway unless you first registered as an Aggie grad.  So the Aggie grads are blistering his ears.  He even eluded to that in his blogs.

Funniest of all, $Bill last week said that the decline in the program was a long time coming.   He thereby disparaged former coach Dennis Franchione.  Then this week,  he said that he knows that Sherman is a good recruiter because all of the freshmen (8 of them) that Sherman recruited in the 2008 class are currently playing.   He thereby disparaged the other recruits who were recruited by Franchione.   He keeps sticking his foot in his keyboard!  HaHa!”

News flash!

Tuesday, September 9th, 2008

Texas A&M Coach Mike Sherman thinks he knows why the Aggies’ performance suffered a drop off in the second half of the past two games.

The Aggies held a 14-0 halftime lead only to lose to Arkansas State 14-18.  They were ahead 21-7 against New Mexico and hung on to win 28-22.

It’s because he screamed at them during halftime, he told a news conference.  I’m not kidding anyone.  Sherman actually made that statement in a news conference.

The beleaguered first-year head coach, who was listed No. 2 on CoachesHotSeat.com last week and is currently listed No. 12 and whose team was listed No. 5 in ESPN’s Bottom 10, said he did the unforgiveable:  He challenged their “fragile manhood”.

Gimmeabreak!  These guys have been playing football since junior high.  During that period, how many times does a kid have the coach screaming in his face?

How many times does any guy have someone screaming at them on the job, at home, and even at church…!

Hey!  I was in the U.S. Army.  My drill sergeant in basic screamed at me not once, not twice, but more times than I can count.

“Hey GI!  Why is IT that every soldier in this man’s Army has his boots tied properly, and your BOOTS ARE NOT TIED WITH A DOUBLE-LOOPED BOW?  NOW DOUBLE-TIME BACK TO THE BARRACKS AND TIE YOUR BOOTS PROPERLY, SLIMEBAG!”

Taking the Sherman’s logic back to my Army days, I should have stuck out my bottom lip, AND stood up in my foxhole and invited the Viet Cong to take aim at my chest.   Yeah!  Right!

Here’s the way it works: When the bullets went whizzing over my head, I was too busy tying my shoe laces to worry.

Come on, Sherman!  You should be ashamed to suggest that the average Aggie football player was shocked at your screaming!  Could it be your coaching?   What about the preparation?  What about the game plan, Sherman?  What about your choice of starting quarterback?  Maybe you spent too much time coddling Jorvorskie Lane.  Think about it, darling.
