Longhorns’ comeback falls short in BCS title game

Friday, January 8th, 2010

After losing QB Colt McCoy on their first offensive series the Texas Longhorns seemed doomed. After a tipped shovel pass turned into a pick-six for Alabama at the end of the first half resulting in a 24-6 deficit most thought the game was over without their senior QB and leader in the game. But Mack Brown’s gutsy Longhorns fought back cutting Alabama’s lead to just 24-21 in the final 6 minutes of the 4th quarter as Texas fell to Alabama by a final score of 37-21 in the BCS National Championship Game.

The Texas Longhorns lost Colt McCoy early in the game but have fought back from a 24-6 halftime deficit to cut Alabama’s lead to just 24-21 in the BCS National Championship Bowl. With 6:14 remaining, Mark Ingram is back in the game and the Crimson Tide have the ball looking to put this game away.

Colt McCoy injured early in BCS Championship Game

Thursday, January 7th, 2010

The Texas Longhorns had to feel good about their QB play coming into the BCS Championship Game as Colt McCoy entered the game with more wins than any other QB in the history of college football. However shortly after intercepting a pass on Alabama’s fake punt McCoy was hit in the right shoulder and removed himself from the game. While Texas has since kicked two field goals to take a 6-0 lead, McCoy is now headed to the x-ray room and may not return in the biggest game of his life.

Texas takes #3 spot in first BCS Standings of 2009

Monday, October 19th, 2009

Texas enters the first BCS rankings at #3.  The Longhorns defeated Oklahoma in the Red River Rivalry in a hard fought contest on Saturday in one of the highest-rated games of the weekend.  At 6-0, the Longhorns have their sites on the National Title, and if they can remain undefeated it seems that either Florida or Alabama will be waiting.  QB Colt McCoy has yet to get on track in 2009, but he better soon as the Longhorns have two consecutive tough road tests at Missouri and at Oklahoma State.  The Cowboys of Oklahoma State fall in at #15 as the Pokes hold a 5-1 record despite playing without WR Dez Bryant and RB Kendall Hunter.  When all of the pieces are in place, OSU is a very dangerous team.  The Cowboys travel to Baylor on October 24th.  The Jayhawks round out the Top 25 rankings at #25.  Kansas lost at Colorado to a struggling Buffalo team as the Jayhawks will face their toughest test of the season when they host Oklahoma on October 24th.

4th down attempt fails, OU back on defense

Thursday, January 8th, 2009

Looking to take advantage of a interception of Tim Tebow, the Oklahoma offense looked in control in driving to the Florida 1 yard line. But the Gators’ defense held OU on 2nd down before stuffing the Sooners on 3rd and 4th downs to take over at the 3 yard line. Why Bob Stoops and OU did not kick the gimme FG and put points on the board is uncertain, but the risk did not pay off.

With under 6 minutes remaining in the 1st half the Sooners and Gators are tied 7-7 in the FedEx BCS National Championship Game. Get your Oklahoma Sooners Championship apparel & merchandise as well as OU clothing online through DFN Sports sites.
