Three ACC teams make Top 25, eight ACC teams poised for bowl games?

Tuesday, October 6th, 2009

The Virginia Tech Hokies moved from 6th to 5th, jumping Boise State, with their victory over the Duke Blue Devils.  QB Tyrod Taylor had an exceptional game through the air.  Tech, who now has their eyes on the National Championship game, will host Boston College on October 10th.  The Miami Hurricanes bounced back from a loss at Virginia Tech with an impressive victory over Oklahoma.  The Sooners, #8 at the time, controlled the early portion of the game but the Canes bounced back with a 21-20 victory.  The win moves Miami up to #11 from #17 as Miami will host Florida A&M on October 10th.  Georgia Tech traveled to Starkville to battle the Bulldogs of Mississippi State and the Yellow Jackets came away with a 42-31 victory.  Georgia Tech moves up from 25th to 22nd.  They will face an inspired Florida State squad in Tallahassee on October 10th.  Boston College also received votes in this week’s Top 25 rankings as 8 ACC teams show up in the weekly Football-Bowl.com college football bowl predictions.

Maryland @ Virginia Week #6 preview

Saturday, October 4th, 2008

The Terrapins travel to Charlottesville for a 7:30 kickoff on Saturday night.. The Terps enter this game as heavy favorites and rightfully so. They are 4-1 and coming off of a huge road win at Clemson. This is a talented and now confident team. UVa on the other hand  is perhaps the worst team in any BCS conference. They are ranked 119 in total offense, dead last.  And the fans in Charlottesville are howling for Al Groh’s dismissal. This game will give them even more ammunition.  And the putrid UVa offense will find the going difficult again this week.

Maryland receiver Darius Heywood Bey is one of the fastest players in all of college football. I expect the Cavaliers to play their usual “cover 2” in the secondary, being fearful of the deep ball. With that in mind, the underneath routes should be available early and often. And the Terps should be able to run the ball on a slow UVa front 7. With the Cavaliers being at home under the lights, I’m hesitant to predict a total blowout. But I do expect a comfortable Maryland victory.

My pick: Maryland 34 - Virginia  17
